Discover Your Social Media Potential

At this point, there’s no need to continue hammering on the importance of social media. But understanding that importance and knowing how to execute an effective strategy are miles apart. Today we’ll look at a simple way to build, structure, and execute a social media campaign that will meet your business goals. This five step process is easily adaptable to your unique situation and market and provides the backbone of all Fusion Group USA’s social media work.
Set Goals
First, know what you after. Just like trying to get in shape, setting out with clear goals in mind will help you stay focused and on task. When it comes to goals, follow the SMART plan. That is:
- Specific – easily defined and clearly articulated
- Measurable – choose metrics that you have the power to track
- Achievable – challenging but realistic
- Results-focused – measure outcomes, not activities
- Time-bound – deadlines are good for productivity
Clearly defined goals are essential to a successful social media campaign, especially if you have more than one person working on the project. Clear and simple goals get everyone on the same page and working in the same direction.
Build Audience Personas
Your business’ social media account isn’t for you, it’s for your audience. Get in their head by creating in-depth audience personas for the people you want to reach. You can use existing analytic tools to determine who you are currently reaching and build from there.
Determine, at a minimum, the age, sex, income, hobbies, interests, and habits of your target audience. From there you will have a much easier path toward creating content that resonates with the people you are trying to reach.
Pick Your Channel(s)
Not every campaign needs to be across every social media channel. In fact, most campaigns work best with tailored to a specific channel. The things that work on Facebook don’t work on Twitter, and the things that work on Instagram don’t work on Pinterest.
Figure out what channel plays to the strength of your campaign and focus on that. I’m not saying you can’t include multiple channels, but it will require the extra work of adjusting your strategy for each one.
Make People Care
The best campaigns make people care. Social media users are flooded with sponsored posts, advertisements, and pushy sales pitches. Stand out from that crowd by offering something that your audience really cares about. Use your audience personas to craft content that answers the questions they’re asking or solves problems they face.
Show you’re human, support a cause, share helpful content; just do something beyond the usual sales pitch and you’ll be off to a great start. I know the temptation to stick to promotional and sales material – but providing useful content will benefit you in the long run.
Execute
Now you’re ready to execute your social media plan. It won’t be easy, but know that having a solid plan in place will make your social media campaign sustainable and likely to outlast the competition. Use your plan to create a social media calendar and make yourself stick to it. There will be days where it is a struggle, but remember that social media is about building a community around your brand, not just making a sale today.
But if you’re struggling to find the time, motivation, or content to keep up with the demands of social media, consider outsources the work to a social media management firm.
